Who were the Mongols?The Mongols were nomadic people meaning that moved around based on the climate to be able to feed their animals. They were a relatively small group of people until 1206 A.D. when Genghis united the tribes. Under the rule of Genghis Khan, the Mongols were able to conquer much of Asia and Russia.
The nomadic lifestyle helped the Mongols become successful in battle. They were able to travel light which let them be swift in battle and they were experts in archery and riding horses. Put those two together and you have a deadly combo. Although a violent and murderous people, the Mongols actually brought peace to many people. They had a high view on living a noble life and women in Mongol society enjoyed a high status. The Mongols were able to conquer more land in a shorter amount of time period than the much celebrated Roman Empire. Although well know for their violent military tactics, the Mongols are credited to expanding trade, religion and ideas and dismantling oppressive feudal systems. So the question is........ |
